The VP – Community Engagement and Development is responsible for ideating and managing campaigns, initiatives, and special projects that benefit communities across the Tri-State region.

The VP – Community Engagement and Development is a key leader at WABC-TV, upholding the station’s commitment to serving local communities and cultures, while also advancing the causes of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The leader will work closely with the General Manager / President of WABC-TV on the development of a clear vision for the future of our local outreach efforts and our local business, and with key leaders and team members across multiple departments (e.g., News, Marketing, Programming, Sales, etc.) at WABC-TV and within OTV and DMED to drive innovation and growth of our community engagement endeavors, priorities, and goals.


  • Creates new community outreach efforts across the market and grows existing partnerships
  • Identifies and cultivates outreach opportunities in key counties to enhance audience development efforts
  • Aligns news, programming, marketing, and talent with cause-related events and campaigns
  • Expands and modernizes existing community campaigns, events, and special projects and develops new internal partnerships across Disney properties
  • Oversees schedule of talent participation in community events
  • Connects station and community initiatives with synergy opportunities across the ABC Owned Television Stations (OTV) and Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution (DMED)
  • Elevates DE&I initiatives within the station and across OTV
  • Works closely with the local belong team to broaden internal and external multicultural presence
  • Partners with OTV community leads to amplify community initiatives and aligns station efforts with DMED community priorities
  • Localizes Disney Corporate Social Responsibility and community-service initiatives
  • Manages the department’s annual operating budget and oversees the station’s donation pool
  • Leverages community and station initiatives to maximize sales and revenue opportunities
  • Provides resources, expertise, and input to station’s weekly public affairs programs, Here and Now and Tiempo
  • Helps to manage and traffic Public Service Announcements that air on station platforms and across OTV

Basic Qualifications:

  • History in development of multi-platform content
  • Ability to foster, develop, and expand relationships with local leaders, partners, and organizations to achieve success with important community initiatives and events.
  • Adept at communicating, motivating, and inspiring team members, and should be a strong, proactive, adaptable leader, a strategic thinker, and a passionate supporter of the communities we serve.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree
